End of Poomedy Rungen’s internship
Deploying a blockchain, the subject of Poomedy Rungen’s internship as part of the PoC blockchain, is complex and draws on a variety of concepts and IT skills.
It is also a technology that is still little‑spread in scientific circles.
Poomedy not only achieved this objective but went far beyond it by deploying several innovative applications for concrete use‑cases.
These achievements naturally require the excellent technical skills she possesses, but not only that.
Poomedy has demonstrated that she has the many qualities needed to see such a project through: curiosity, a desire to learn, autonomy, a synthesis mindset, organisational sense, documentation management, communication skills…
Moreover, she quickly integrated and became appreciated by team members or by external colleagues during technical exchanges or presentations.
The blockchain PoC is part of the longer‑term Blockchain ESR project. The quality of the deliverables and the applications deployed by Poomedy will undoubtedly help illuminate public research on the potential of this technology.
You can consult the [internship report] for the blockchain PoC as well as the project’s [deliverables].

Inter‑CATI Seminar – Avignon
The 18 INRAE Automated Information‑Processing Centres (CATI) form a network that groups IT specialists from various professions by theme.
Thus, for a given theme, acting as support for research, a CATI is designed to identify and produce IT solutions and associated services in response to a need expressed by a particular working community.
The annual inter‑CATI seminar took place in Avignon from 3 to 5 June 2025.
On that occasion we presented the [PoC Blockchain pilot project] and Poomedy RUNGEN took part in the progress of her internship, which involved deploying a blockchain.

Arrival of Poomedy Rungen
Poomedy Rungen, currently in her fourth year of engineering school at Polytech Montpellier, joined us for an M2 internship until 31 August 2025.
Poomedy’s objective is to deploy an Ethereum blockchain to test the use‑cases selected for the blockchain PoC.
Throughout her internship she will benefit from the support and expertise of INRAE and CNRS engineers and technicians, who will also make the technical infrastructures she needs available to her.
Poomedy will also take part in reflections on the legal and governance topics raised during the blockchain PoC.
Welcome, Poomedy!

Review of the launch of the “Blockchain ESR” network
The aim of these two half‑day sessions was to formalise the network “Blockchain ESR” and to discuss with the members and guests present in order to set the 2025 objectives.
Use‑case testing
We will test a few certification / traceability use‑cases with the blockchain.
-
MTA, project led by Fabienne BARLET (Centre de ressources biologiques GAMét)
The MTA (Material Transfer Agreement) is a contract governing the transfer of material between two parties, whether public or private, generally for research purposes only. It defines the terms and conditions of the material transfer, notably those concerning ownership of the material and its modifications. The contract also sets out the conditions for use, publication, confidentiality, … -
Maggot metadata‑management software, project led by Daniel JACOB (INRAE)
-
eLabFTW electronic lab notebook, project led by Martin AMOUZOU (ARDoISE network)
An electronic lab notebook must fulfil the same functions as a paper lab notebook. Like its paper counterpart, it must guarantee the traceability of research by recording day‑by‑day laboratory activities.
Proof of Concept “Blockchain”
We will deploy a test blockchain infrastructure consisting of an open‑source Ethereum blockchain (with API) and a blockchain explorer.

Bloxberg Summit 2024
We will be present at the “Bloxberg Summit 2024” on 18 October 2024 to showcase the integration of blockchain into the metadata‑management software Maggot.
The summit is organised by the Bloxberg Association and will take place at the University of Geneva, Centre Universitaire d’Informatique (CUI).

Digital Café “Blockchain ESR”
Held once a month via videoconference, the digital cafés are meeting places and debates around digital topics related to open science.
The next digital café will be on Monday 30 September 2024 at 16:00, featuring a presentation about the professional network “Blockchain ESR” (Higher Education and Research Blockchain).
Blockchain technology offers an innovative solution for certification and traceability of data in scientific research. Thanks to its decentralised and immutable architecture, every transaction or piece of data added to a blockchain is timestamped, verified by a network of peers, and stored securely and transparently. This guarantees the integrity and authenticity of scientific results, prevents data falsification, and ensures transparency of research processes.
The aim of this presentation is to popularise the technology and to introduce the professional network “Blockchain ESR”.
